Allergy & ingredient guide

Everything baked at Kay's is made by hand in a home kitchen. Here's what's in our treats and how we handle allergens.

Important to know

Our home kitchen regularly handles wheat, eggs, dairy, tree nuts (almond, macadamia), peanuts, and soy. We use shared bowls, baking sheets, and utensils. Because of that, we cannot guarantee any item is completely free of an allergen, even when a specific recipe doesn't include it. If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, please contact us before ordering so we can talk through the risks together.

Common allergens at a glance

  • Whole milk and/or buttermilk
  • Pure vanilla extract and natural flavorings
  • Baking powder, baking soda, salt
  • Cocoa powder and semi-sweet chocolate (may contain soy)

Substitutions & special requests

We're happy to talk through substitutions for many recipes β€” for example, dairy-free buttercream, egg-free decorating cookies, or nut-free custom cakes. Some swaps work beautifully and others change the texture too much, so we'll be honest about what we can and can't do.

Custom and gluten-free requests need extra lead time (typically 1–2 weeks) and may carry a small surcharge for specialty ingredients.

Send us a note before you order β€” we'd much rather answer questions up front than risk anyone's safety.
